Like Black Holes In The Sky: The Tribute To Syd Barrett (2008)

Syd Barrett fué uno de los fundadores de una de las mejores bandas de todos los tiempos: Pink Floyd. Fue cantante, compositor y guitarrista de la banda en su primer álbum The Piper at the Gates of Dawn con letras caprichosas, hablando del espacio, gnomos y cuentos de hadas. Syd cada vez abusaba más de las drogas, sobretodo del LSD, lo cuál cada vez más le iba afectando tanto en presentaciones en vivo como en el interior de la banda. Poco tiempo después dejó banda y en su lugar entraría David Gilmour, sin embargo lo seguían tomando en cuenta para componer letras y ocacionalmente participar en sus conciertos, lo cual el manager no aceptó. Por su parte en solitario grabó dos álbumes más con la ayuda de Gilmour en la producción. Esta historia es muy extensa, poco queda decir acerca de este gran ícono de la música, un genio de la psicodélia, dejando un gran legado tanto para Pink Floyd como para otras bandas desde finales de los 60's hasta el día de hoy; es por eso que en el 2008 se grabó un tributo con grupos de Stoner Rock, Sludge y Doom rindiendo un pequeño homenaje a una de las personalidades mas emblemáticas de la música.

ASHES dIVIDE - Keep Telling Myself It's Alright (2008)

Billy Howerdel es el escritor, productor, vocalista y lider de esta gran banda de Rock Alternativo (que tiene ciertos matices de Rock Progresivo), tambien conocido por el ser co-fundador de A Perfect Circle junto con Maynard James Keenan, ademas de ser el tecnico de guitarras de Tool, toda una reata. Este es el album debut de ASHES dIVIDE, donde se nota una gran influencia de A Perfect Circle y ligeros tintes de Depeche Mode solo para darse una cierta idea, aunque la musica que nos comparten es otro viaje. La banda esta formada por: Billy Howerdel (guitarra y voz), Jeff Friedl (bateria), Matt McJunkins (bajo), Jonny Radtke (guitarra) y Adam Monroe (teclado); tambien cuenta con algunas colaboraciones especiales para algunas rolas como Devo Keenan (hijo de Maynard) tocando el chelo y Paz Lenchantin (ex A Perfect Circle), un discazo para disfrutar en cada momento.

IAMX - Live in Warsaw (2008)

IAMX es el nombre del proyecto solista de Chris Corner (ex integrante de Sneaker Pimps) donde deja a un lado el Trip-Hop para encaminar su musica hacia lo que podria definirse como Indietronic. Esta es su tercera produccion y es un gran album, ya que es en vivo (grabado en Berlin) y trae sus rolas mas representativas. Aunque su proyecto es solista y el graba cada instrumento en sus discos, para tocadas en vivo lo acompañan: Dean Rosenzweig (guitarra y bajo), Tom Marsh (bateria), Janine Gezang (teclado, sintetizador, bajo, voz) y por supuesto Chris Corner (voz, guitarra y teclado). Un excelente disco para comenzar un excelente fin de semana.

Tool - Ænima (1996)

Esta mega banda no necesita presentacion, pero para los que no la conocen o no saben mucho de Tool aqui les dejo una breve reseña. Directamente desde Los Angeles, EUA, llega al Blog el tercer disco que ha sacado esta banda de metal/rock progresivo donde demuestran un sonido mas maduro, mas elaborado que al de sus discos anteriores (Opiate y Undertow) y con el cual se dieron a conocer a nivel mundial, ya que a la gente le fascino este material, exquisito para el que lo escuche. Sus integrantes son: Maynard James Keenan (voz y letras), Adam Jomes (guitarra), Danny Carey (bateria) y Justin Chancellor (bajo). Tool se caracteriza por sus letras complejas, la gran voz de Maynard, sus destiempos y cambios de ritmo. Que puedo decir, es mi banda favorita! Poco a poco ire subiendo todos los discos de Tool y de los proyectos alternos de sus integrantes, enjoy!

UNKLE - Never, Never, Land (2004)

Segunda produccion discografica de este ensamble de Inglaterra que a veces suena a Musica Electronica Experimental y otras veces a Trip-Hop formado por James Lavelle y Tim Goldsworthy, durante algun tiempo tambien participo DJ Shadow, aunque ahora tomo su lugar Richard File; aunque UNKLE solo lo conforman ellos, a lo largo de sus discos han contado con varias colaboraciones de artistas de varias bandas, dandole un toque distinto a cada uno de sus materiales. Este es un disco muy recomendable de principio a fin con la participacion de 3D (Massive Attack), Ian Brown (The Stone Roses), entre otros.

Pearl Jam - Do The Evolution

Fujiya & Miyagi - Lightbulbs (2008)

Al escuchar el nombre de esta banda, viene a mi mente una marca de productos electronicos y me hace recordar aquella saga de los 80's de peliculas de accion Karate Kid (pura nostalgia); y hace pensar que dicho grupo proviene de tierras Orientales... pero no es asi, ellos son de Brighton, Inglaterra. Fujiya & Miyagi comenzo como un duo (aunque ahora son cuatro) en el año 2000, mostrando la combinacion de sonidos minimalistas, ambientales y experimentales con ritmos electronicos de principios de los 90's. Esta es su tercer produccion y sus integrantes son: Steve Lewis Fujiya (sintetizador, beats, programacion y voz), David Best Miyagi (voz y guitarra), Matt Hainsby & (bajo y guitarra) y Lee Adams (bateria). Este es un muy buen disco para escucharlo en la oficina, al hacer la tarea, para escucharlo en el auto, en fin, gran CD.
